LOCUST GROVE — People in the path of Hurricane Idalia were invited to seek refuge at Atlanta Motor Speedway as storms continued to move through the Southeast regions of the nation. The Locust Grove motorway first opened to those seeking shelter following Hurricane Irma in 2017.
The speedway is equipped to host thousands of guests across its facility for its marquee NASCAR races and other events throughout the year, this week the site will provide camping space free of charge for dry camping in its Unreserved RV campground to those in need. A limited number of camping spaces with water, power and sewer will also be available to evacuees for a nominal fee of $35 per night, Brandon Hutchison, the executive vice president and general manager for the Atlanta Motor Speedway, said.
