This year already has many of us fully engrossed in the same activities that occupied our attention last year. It is winter and those who must travel watch the weather reports. Very low morning temperatures mean the car’s motor must be warmed up before getting on the road. However, if the possibility of precipitation is forecast, a different set of concerns occupies our attention. If it might rain, we wonder if the bridges will become iced. Parents are wondering if schools will be let out early? If it snows, we wonder if we can leave work early to beat the traffic jam.
Some of you who have relocated from the North may think we are foolish to fret the way we do. However, in this mild climate it is more economical to take a day off than invest millions of tax dollars in snow removal equipment that is used only once every two or three years.
