HCWA Addresses Sewer Overflow Following Heavy Rains

McDONOUGH — The Henry County Water Authority (HCWA) released a statement Oct. 24 sharing the impacts that Hurricane Helene had on the water/sewer system. It also addressed the overflow of more than 1 million gallons of both stormwater and untreated wastewater into Big Cotton Indian Creek.

HCWA officials received concerning reports from field technicians regarding severe flooding and inflow of storm water into the system. This significantly impacted sewer lines, sewer lift stations and wastewater treatment plant operations. As a result, the HCWA reported four sewer overflows, including the overflow into Big Cotton Indian Creek.
