County Commissioners Urge Congress To Pass HELPER Act

Henry County Board of Commissioners Chair Carlotta Harrell speaks at a May press conference held by U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga., at the Henry County Police Department’s North Precinct.

ATLANTA — Georgia county commissioners are urging passage of a bipartisan bill to help law enforcement officers buy their first homes.

The Association County Commissioners of Georgia and the National Association of Counties recently voted to endorse U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff’s, D-Ga., bipartisan HELPER Act, which would establish a new, one-time use home loan program under the Federal Housing Administration or first responders and teachers to purchase their first home — modeled after a similar and successful VA home loan program.
