New council members to take oath of office in January

LOCUST GROVE – Locust Grove residents elected a new mayor during the Special Election on Nov 5. Carlos Greer defeated Acting Mayor Vincent Williams by 751 votes to secure the position. Candidate E. Olivia McCornell will fill his seat on the Locust Grove City Council.

Other races on the Special Election ballot were to decide who would fill Greer or Williams’ seat if either was elected as mayor. McCornell won 52% of the votes across four precincts to fill Greer’s council seat, beating both of her opponents by more than 800 votes. Williams will remain in his seat on the City Council.
