Though we are in the depth of wintertime, spring will be here before we know it. Now is the time to begin planning our spring and summer gardens. Would you like to get an early start on this year’s planting season? Try starting seeds indoors.

Begin with high quality seed from a reliable dealer, such as a garden center or online seed catalog. Choose varieties that are adapted to our climate. Purchase only enough to use in one season, and even though seeds can be stored until the following year, they will not as viable. Larger seeds, such as squash, cucumbers, corn and okra, are best planted directly into the ground. Other plants are best started using seed starting containers, such as tomatoes, peppers, cabbage and others.
