McDONOUGH – For years, Henry County has made major contributions to the Samaritan’s Purse project Operation Christmas Child. This year, Henry and the other eight counties included within the south metro Atlanta area are hoping to collect 39,000 shoeboxes during this year's National Collection Week from Nov. 18 - 25.

Operation Christmas Child seeks support from communities worldwide to collect shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies, and personal care items to send to children in need around the world. Since forming in 1993, this project has delivered over 220 million shoeboxes to children in more than 170 countries and territories. In 2024, the Operation hopes to gift 12 million children with shoeboxes.
